For the moment I'm going still be primarily based on lj. However very barebones backups of this journal can be found at:
http://lapillus.insanejournal.com/
and
http://lapillus.greatestjournal.com/.

If someone wants to give me an invite to journalfen, I'll set one up over there, too, but right now I don't have the $ to buy an account.

To friend:
insanejournal
greatestjournal

If you want to friend me at either of those places while staying in lj (or vice versa or via other journalling solutions that support it) check out these instructions for using OpenID.

I had good luck using lj-sec to move stuff (although not the comments, which I have backed up via lj-archive) and posting to multiple accounts via semagic.

The I-35W bridge over the Mississippi (which I cross twice daily for work) just collapsed. I'm fine. [info]jackiekjono is fine. [info]twocats and her mother who are staying with us tonight are coming from the other direction and should be fine.

in reference to gorgeous, sculpted cloud reflecting the first bits of sunset:

"Gosh, that looks just like Hudson River school painting!"

To which I answered "Yes, " and wandered home with my poweraid.

I'm hoping that someone could record "Demolition" on BBC on Tuesday? A friend is going to be on it and my folks and I would love a copy. Format (VHS, DVD, AVI file, etc) doesn't really matter (we play all regions and all formats in this household) and I'll happily pay shipping.

More on my trip later (still sorting through LJ - my you all were talkative!!!), but pictures can be found in large and growing quantities at http://flickr.com/photos/lapillus/.

She asked, "I'm curious about what interests you about slave fic; I know youmay not be able or want to discuss it, but, if you can and don't mind,it would be interesting to hear your take on what makes the genre workfor you. :)"

Cut for my exteremely verbose answer. )

Security:Public

Somewhere, long ago, someone one my friends list (I think) posted links to tutorials on doing digital painting in photoshop using photos as reference. If it was you or you have any similar suggestions, I'd love to see them. Even links to places I might find links would be great.

Does anyone know how to pass a username and password via a link? I know it can be done as I've done it once before but I no longer have a copy of the code that does it and I believe it was one of you fine folks who pointed me in the right direction.

Thanks in advance!

First, for anyone who enjoys photography of things like mountain climbing check out the interview with National Geographic expedition photographer Gordon Wiltse. The explanations of how he gets the shots may be even more impressive than the pictures.

And second, pop culture in the spotlight again, this time the influence of Japanese media (anime, manga, video games) on youth culture. Nothing new here (other than the size of studio ghibli and the decline of manga on Japanese trains in the past decade) </font>but it's always interesting to see what folks who aren't into a given area of pop culture and fannish make of it when they take a closer look.

A bird (I think maybe a robin???) has some how (as yet to be determined) gotten into the basement and is (apparently) taking refuge in the partial dropped ceiling, flying out periodically to everyone's distress. There is a door off the basement which I have left open every time it's emerged but so far it hasn't been willing to go over that way. If anybody has any ideas of how to get it were both it and we would be happier I'd appreciate it!
